Factors to Consider When Buying a Power Juicer

By Tyler Howarth

There are so many juicing machines available it is difficult to choose a suitable one. I initially became aware of the juicing when I purchased a Jack Lalanne Power Juicer. A lot of people frequently buy a juicer that is unsuitable for their requirements. Prior to going out and looking for a juicing machine it is first important to decide what types of food you wish to juice. To make the right decision it is important to understand the salient points between the different juicers such as those for fruit and wheat grass. I would advise making a list of the main points you want prior to going out and shopping

On the market there are a variety of different juicers available. Types available such as a centrifugal juicer, twin gear appliance and masticating juicer can make the whole process of choosing quite difficult and often confusing. Centrifugal juicers are the most common and most affordable than the other juicers. Due to their high rotation speed they are most suitable for juicing vegetables and fruit.

They are, however, unsuitable for foods like spinach, wheat grass and lettuce. To prevent any of the juice going to waste it is frequently advised to buy a single or twin blade machine. For these varieties, special designs of juicers are available. An auger juicer such as the Miracle MJ 500 is one example of a suitable machine for this function. They contain no aluminium parts, are easy to assemble, disassemble and operate and are usually cheaper. The low speed units, such as masticating juicers, produce less oxidation of the fruit juice and, therefore, make a higher quality juice.

I would advise checking the guarantee of any machine before purchasing. A warranty of 5 to 10 years is often available on most good juicers. Also it is advisable check the blades and the quality of the blades as most will need replacing after 2 to 4 months of normal use. The output and efficiency of the appliance will be reflected by the yield figures quoted on the machine. Ideally you want a lot less waste and more juice. A motor rating of about 420 watts is advised as heat produced from using a much higher power motor can often destroy the product due to oxidation.

A machine such as the Jack Lalanne Power Fruit Juicer is often a better buy than a non branded machine. This is because, spares and replacement parts are often easier to find.

An added benefit of modern juicers is they can be used for other functions other than just juicing. They can be used to produce nut butters, pasta and ice cream along with many other foods. These more modern appliances are really quite versatile. - 17269
