Low Carb Diets Can Pose Health Risks

People tend to delve in the misconception that getting into a diet with low carbohydrates is a solution to lose weight and gain better health. They avoid taking in food which are high in carbohydrates thinking it would give them better health.

Our energy required for our day to day activities comes from high carbohydrate foods. If this raw material for energy production is low, the body cannot provide you with all the energy needed for your activities.

However, it would be unwise to make high carbohydrates food to be your main diet. It is also not wise to skip it altogether. A balance between low carbohydrates food and the high carbohydrates food group must be maintained in order to achieve optimum health.

People who are in a low carb diet has to eat foods which are high in proteins. Meat is a rich source of proteins. Having too much protein though may pose some risks on your health such as osteoporosis.

Calcium is needed by our body to counterbalance the acids which form as a result of digesting protein. If your body have a low supply of calcium, the body uses the calcium in your bones to maintain the process involved in the digestion of protein. That's where the risk of osteoporosis comes in.

Low carb diets which are low in fruits, whole grains and vegetables but are rich in protein such as animal meat can pose risks for developing cancer according to the American Institute for Cancer Reasearch.

Countries with low fat intake have a much lower rate of breast cancer compared to countries with high fat intake. Low carb diet induces your body to take in fats and that's one reason why low carb diet is not good.

To further minimize the risk of cancer, include foods that have high fiber content in your diet. Fiber is another important substance that our body can well benefit from.
