Bodybuilding Dieting, Tips to Do it Right

Ok, so you want to get huge and you get into the gym, pound weights till you have a big red head. And you maybe think that's all you have to do, pump the weights, if only it was that simple.

Nutrition plays a very large part of recovery and growth. Bodybuilding diets are constantly changing due to the increase of your muscle mass, if you put muscle on you have to eat more, if you lose muscle you need to eat less. So how do you keep an eye on what is happening inside the body?

First you will want to monitor your weight and see if your goal of adding muscle is causing your bodyweight to increase. If the weight is stay as it is, then we need to look at increasing the food taken in. You are eating too much if your weight is increasing and if your stomach is growing. Be careful, as initially your weight will increase with lifting, and you want to monitor for increased in the dreaded fat.

Another good method of checking which is going up, muscle or fat is to use a set of body fat calipers. By using the calipers every two weeks that will show exactly what is happening, if muscle is going down due to not eating enough then that will show with the calipers and you will need to eat more. If the calipers show that bodyfat percentage is going up then you need to eat less.

Every good gym will have a set of calipers and assuming it is the same person doing the measurments each time you will get a honest reading as for what is going on. After you have figured out the amount of millimeters and your bodyweights, it is then that the chart which comes with calipers will determine what bodyfat percentage you are.

If you take your bodyweight in pounds and times it by the bodyfat percentage then that will come out with your total bodyfat. Then take this figure from the total bodyweight and that will give you a figure for your fat free mass. The figure is not all muscle but includes internal organs, bones, etc, but just use the figure as muscle for our calculations.

You should record and keep the figures you calculated for total body fat and for fat free mass. When you have your measurements taken you can check to see if the percentage of bodyfat has increased. If you do the correct exercise and eat correctly then your body fat will go down. And with the decrease of body fat, you will find that your muscles and fat free mass will go up. If you are not eating correctly you will discover that your fat free mass, muscle is decreasing and the bodyfat is increasing. - 17269

5 Tips So You Enjoy Dining Out Healthier

Dining out is a big part of our lives. Maybe you are eating out frequently because you entertain clients. Perhaps you don't like eating out. Either way, if you want to keep a nice trim body, restaurant meals will give you a huge obstacle to overcome. In fact, eating out is one of the biggest reasons why so many people fatten up while traveling.

If you're interested in staying lean while dining out by using a few healthy tricks you're in luck because I'm going to share some below.

In every restaurant you find these 3 things to avoid at all costs, and here they are:

*** deep fried foods (anything dropped in a scorching bath of trans fats) *** refined starchy foods *** any sodas, juices and other sugary foods (except fresh fruits, which are great)

Skip these 3 culprits and you'll eliminate most of the major food sources that do the worst damage to our food supply - trans fats, processed vegetable oils, processed starchy carbohydrates, and processed sugars.

Skip the bread, cut out the french fries that come with every sandwich on every menu in every restaurant, and cut back on all your portions of pasta and rice that are often loaded on the plate, too.

Substitute a salad for the typical french fries, pasta, or rice, that most restaurant meals come with. And of course eat your meat and other vegetables as usual.

Almost all restaurants that I have been to will always let me substitute vegetables or a side salad for the french fries or chips that come with all burgers or sandwiches.

On a side note, it still amazes me that people scrutinize me because I substitute veggies for french fries and tell me that I am 'not living' because I refuse to eat fatty french fries... are you kidding me! If that's your idea of 'living it up', you need to get some better hobbies!

Ironically, these same people are the first to complain that they are fat, overweight and have tried 'everything', yet can not lose their big guts. I am not sure why so many people think eating deep fried foods equals 'living it up'... I am for moderation with many things, but there are 2 things that should be totally removed from every diet because these foods are simply dangerous... it is sodas and fries!

Take a look at the typical difference this simple substitution makes between choosing smart and doing what most other people do...

Most people will eat a meal out such as this:

* Burger or sandwich or burger * chips or fries * soda or other sweetened drink (and no, diet sodas are NOT healthy!)

Here's a MUCH smarter alternative if you care about your body and health:

* Burger or Sandwich * Salad or veggies * unsweetened iced tea or water (no diet drinks -- unless you like to drink poison!)

These 2 simple substitutions can save you around 400 - 900 calories every time you eat out (depending on drink refills and portion sizes)... AND you are cutting out the poison's and other harmful foods to your body as well by avoiding the evil trans fats and high fructose corn syrup from the fries and soft drinks.

On a side note: a semi-secret method to eat full portions of breads, pasta, and rice, and actually get away with it without packing on the extra fat is to schedule a high intensity full body resistance training exercise before your scheduled meal time. This can be free weights or body weight training.

Sometimes it can be really hard to fit the exercise into your schedule right before the meal, but if you can, the meal can be your 'post-exercise meal'. After a high intensity resistance training exercise, your body can handle a higher amount of carbs than normal to help replenish the muscle glycogen depletion you had during the intense workout.

A typical moderate intensity cardio exercise will NOT cut it for this... it must be high intensity resistance training exercise to deplete enough muscle glycogen to handle restaurant portions of carbs.

Replace white foods such as white bread, white rice and sugar with whole grain foods. Whole grains are lower in fat and higher in nutrients. The fiber in whole grains will make you feel fuller faster and longer. Also whole grains contain many nutrients that are often lacking in people's diets.

Consume more water. Drink it instead of juices and sodas which add about 90,000 calories to the average person's diet each year. Drink water between meals too. The goal is 8 glasses of water each day. It's easily possible. Drinking water also promotes health in general by keeping you well hydrated and cool.

Eat healthy snacks between meals. The body needs food every three to four hours to maintain proper blood sugar. Eating healthy snacks, such as fruits, helps control eating at meal times.
