Bodybuilding Supplements Facts, 10 Myths About Creatine

By Ricardo d Argence

1. The more creatine you take, the better. You've seen those sick bodybuilders chugging down 10-20 grams of creatine. Is it worth it? According to scientists at 0.1 grams per kilogram of bodyweight, male athletes excreted 46% of the ingested creatine within 24 hours. Scientists confirmed that lower doses of creatine monohydrate (5g/day) are effective, and that results can even be achieved without a loading phase.

2. Creatine has the potential to damage the kidneys and liver. Unless you have a pre-existing condition, creatine should cause no harm to the internal orgasm. Much of the harm that can be derived from creatine is really a myth that have been put forth from anecdotal reports. One study looked over healthy athletes that took creatine for a five year period and discovered no instances of renal of kidney damage.

3. Creatine is known to cause excess water retention. A very targeted and clear study on the use of creatine noted that after three months of creatine use, many test subjects displayed no significant increases in their body water. In reality, the creatine group study actually displayed greater gains in the areas of total body mass and fat-free mass.

The possibility that inferior-grade creatine may yield the promotion of water gain that can end up with a soft, puffy look. However, there are several reasons why this can be the case. First, it may not be due to the ingestion of creatine, but it can be due to excess sodium. When supplements are cheaply manufactured, excess sodium might be present in the actual finished product.

4. Creatine can cause cramping. This idea that creatine is known to cause muscle cramping is purely anecdotal and there is no clinical evidence in support of such a claim. There are no clinical studies showing creatine causes cramping.

5. Creatine needs to be taken with a glass of grape juice. The concept behind using creatine with sugar products such as grape juice is a sound one. However, the trick is not the amount of grape juice per serving. Rather, this has to do with the function of insulin in the body. For creatine uptake to feel enhanced, insulin release needs to be clearly and effectively encouraged. Insulin functions can be considered a form of creatine pump designed to push it into muscles. If you are going to use juice, always be sure to get at least 100g of juice for every 5g of creatine you use.

6. Creatine works better in a liquid form. In fact, in liquid form, you may not even be getting creatine, but creatinine, a by-product of creatine breakdown. Creatine, in powder form, is extremely stable.

7. All creatine products are the same. There is an enormous difference among all the many creatine products on the market. Some are better than others. Chinese creatine is considered a lower quality product that contains more contaminants along the lines of creatinine, sodium, dicyandiamide, and dihydrotriazine. German creatine, from companies such as SKW, is a much better product.

8. Creatine use is 100% safe. While creatine is non-toxic, creatine use is not wholly risk-free. As with all other nutritional supplements, individuals with pre-existing medical conditions should not take creatine or other sports supplements. So before you begin supplementing with anything, the best advice is to see your physician.

9. Creatine must be taken at a specific time. While it has been proven that you can maximize creatine uptake by taking it with a 1:1 ratio of protein to carbs, no real evidence suggests that there's a best time to take creatine. Whether you take it in the morning, afternoon, or evening probably won't make a significant difference. For convenience sake, you might take it with your post-training protein/carb shake.

10. It is possible to procure adequate amounts of creatine in a diet. The average person will absorb roughly 1g of creatine per day from the average diet. The creatine found in foods such as beef, cod, salmon, and herring will often be destroyed by the flames when you cook it. - 17269

Enzyme Nutrition - The Key to Longetivity

By Roman Reyome

Enzymes, by definition are long chain proteins. These enzymes are very specifically formed and held together by hydrogen bonds. Like a ball of string with very small strips of Velcro. If the Velcro bond is broken - the enzymes loose their shape. With no shape the key will not fit the lock. At this point the enzyme is no longer an enzyme, but just another foreign protein.

What do foreign proteins cause in our body? Right - inflammation. Immune response. And that's exactly the meaning of auto-immune. The body now attacks itself because it senses there's an alien on board. Self confronted with not-self.

When the enzyme bonds are broken the enzyme collapses and is no long effective. When the enzyme collapses it referred to as denatured. This is caused by drugs, alcohol, fluoride, food processing, irradiation, canning and heating at or above 118F (cooking.) Since these enzymes become ineffective a protein enzyme supplement would be beneficial.

An abundance of denatured enzymes is present in all processed foods - allergenic enzymes and the majority of allergies can be directly traced back to processed foods. Processed food intoxication.

Civilization is responsible for the destruction of milk and the loss of its enzyme nutrition. Destruction of milk is caused by the heating process, addition of antibiotics and hormones to the diet feed to cows. Environment deficient in minerals and artificially prepared for extended periods of storage.

Eating In America: Most of us are aware of what we should eat. But in actuality, we eat foods that we crave. Which happens several times a day. We are bombarded with commercials for soft drinks, fries, burgers, sweets of all kinds, donuts and much more. As soon as we hear these commercials we can't help the desire to have them. These foods contain little or next to no enzyme nutrition. They contain no enzymes which means even when we do eat them there is no nutritional value in them. All the enzymes have been removed through the processing of these foods. The digestion process now becomes the burden of the enzymes in our own bodies. Foods are partially digested or not at all. These foods now become foreign, so processed with so many chemicals and preservatives. This processing of foods is relatively new to the humans. Our bodies are overstressed in its inability to metabolize them.

Natural and raw foods contain nutrients, such as vitamins, minerals, and enzymes. Processed food can be described as devitalized - not much in there we can use. The 'foods of commerce' are made to be sold, to last on the shelf a long time. This has nothing to do with human nutrition.

Garbage In: What does happen to all that undigested food? And where does it go? Well, it does go into your system, but never comes out. According to the FDA at age 35, on the average, a person harbors between 4 to 22 pounds of undigested food in their intestines alone.

As noted above, this rotting debris doesn't just stay in the intestine, but can make its way intact into the bloodstream, to be deposited in practically any location of the body. Such food is foreign and may cause inflammation in any area where it becomes lodged. - 17269

Fibromyalgia Treatment - Traditional Options Used Today

By Pat Colapinto

Very little is known about fibromyalgia, an illness that causes widespread pain in the muscles and other soft tissues of the body. This mysterious syndrome affects more than 6 million people in the US. The main symptoms of fibromyalgia include fatigue and pain. Fybromyalgia treatment are set according to each person's needs.

The fatigue associated with fibromyalgia can be treated in a variety of ways. First, lifestyle changes may be prescribed. Fatigue is caused by sleep disturbances. To combat these disturbances in minor cases of fibromyalgia, a sleep routine may be helpful.

Features of a sleep routine include regular sleep hours. For example, go to sleep at ten and wake up at six. Also, a bedtime ritual can help to prepare the mind and body for sleep. A bedtime ritual is a set routine that is performed nightly before going to bed.

Having a bedtime may seem childish but it is one of the best ways to fight fatigue. Sleeping during the same hours trains your body that it is time to sleep. Additionally, a bedtime ritual, which is a routine of activities done before bedtime, will reinforce the training. For example, taking a hot bubble bath or laying down to read for an hour.

Pain is the most common symptom of fibromyalgia. It is also the most difficult to treat. Some experts believe that regular aerobic exercise will ease pain. However, repetitive motion can also worsen the symptoms of pain. Other experts state that regular stretching of the afflicted muscles will help. However, in more severe cases of fibromyalgia stretching can cause extreme pain.

Pain management can also be achieved in some patients through the use of medication. However, caution is necessary when treating fibromyalgia pain with pain killers, because some pain medications hinder the body's ability to enter deep sleep. Without regular deep sleep, the symptoms of fibromyalgia will only get worse. - 17269

Diets Exposed: The Best Diets To Lose Fat

By Melissa Newton

It seems like there are so many weight loss programs on the market today they can't even be counted, and they all seem to have their own diet secrets to lose fat. There is the famous Weight Watchers diet, or you may prefer the milk and cookies diet. But whatever your preference, there are different pros and cons for them all compared to your current lifestyle and food habits.

To move you along on your mission to lose fat I will tell you a few tips to help you achieve your weight loss goals. A few of the things I tell you might sounds like the opposite of what you are used to hearing, but stay with me. First of all, you need to eat more. That's right, you heard me, eat more. You should be consuming five to six meals a day compared to the usual three. The idea is that with and increased frequency of consumption your metabolism will also increase. This will in turn increase the burning of fat.

Moreover, your diets to lose fats should also include consumption of foods rich in protein in every meal because protein has the highest Thermogenesis Induced by the Diet or T.I.D. level among many nutrients. This is used by many experts to measure the energy used by the body when digesting nutrients and burning fats. Hence, the more you consume foods rich in protein, the more energy your body uses.

Furthermore, you should also increase your intake of food rich in carbohydrates but with low G.I. index or Glycemic Index. This is the rate of carbohydrate conversion into glucose that enters the bloodstream. This is also essential because secretion of insulin is usually triggered by carbohydrates; and insulin is accountable for the progress of fat tissues in the body. Hence, consumption of food with low G.I. index minimizes the development of adipose tissues because it also means lower rate of glucose entry into the bloodstream.

There are still more tips that can help you along in your diet to lose fat, but I think the few tips included in this article will start you off quite well. Remember, the most important ingredient in your fat loss diet is determination. Keep your will power up and you will do well. - 17269

Coffee Starts Your Day the Right Way

By Damian Papworth

For thousands of years the bean of this plant has been harvested and utilized by various cultures for its plentiful health and taste properties. Today it is also utilized by students, executives, and moms-on-the-go for its beloved caffeine benefits. Yet whether it is consumed for its practical health and caffeine properties, or simply for a love of its bold, rich flavor, coffee is a staple in the diet of millions of Americans.

Today coffee has been transformed from an everyday beverage to a sort of cultural phenomenon. Gone are the days when ordering a coffee meant something as simple as a black cup of joe or a pot of mud. Today, coffee connoisseurs all over the world enjoy the luxury of customized coffee drinks, which allow consumers to tailor every aspect of the recipe and flavor combination to their specific palate. For bold coffee lovers, a simple double black espresso, with a touch of foam, and a dash of cinnamon will likely do the trick. For those who prefer a more subtle coffee flavor, numerous drink options allow for the pairing of espresso or drip coffee with chocolate, vanilla, caramel, cinnamon, and countless other flavors.

The growth of major coffee retailers in the past decade has helped to make coffee a mainstay in the mainstream cultural dietary regime. Today more and more people who never previously frequented coffee shops or retailers, are now beginning to jump on the Starbucks bandwagon. Options tailored to meet one's specific flavor preferences as well as nutritional needs, ensure that everyone can find exactly what they would like. Special limited edition offerings and a festive atmosphere of many coffee shops during the fall and holiday season also have helped to make coffee more similar to a wonderful little indulgence or treat, rather than a simple beverage option.

In this economy, in particular, more and more people are taking solace in enjoying small, more cost-friendly, quality-of-life indulgences, and forgoing more expensive habits such as dining at high-priced, four-course restaurants.

In addition to the delicious, bold, rich flavor savored by coffee-lovers, the drink is also enjoyed for its quite potent caffeine properties. For busy students, professionals, and parents, coffee is often a central part of the morning routine. A good cup of coffee can help to ensure a more enjoyable and productive day of study and work, and to make up for a few hours of missed sleep or a late night at the office or library.

Another of the many benefits of coffee has only recently come to be understood. As the sophistication of chemical processing techniques continues to increase, scientists are beginning to uncover what may be some of coffee's most important chemical property benefits.

Recently scientists discovered that coffee beans are one o f the foods richest in antioxidants. Antioxidants, which are typically found in brightly or deeply colored beans, fruits, and vegetables provide human bodies with an increased level of protection from harmful chemicals in the external environment, and as a result they help to prevent premature skin-aging.

Perhaps the most important role of antioxidants in human health, however, is their cancer-prevention property. Enjoying a simple cup of coffee every morning along with a bowl of fresh blueberries or broccoli every evening, could potentially go a long way in preventing illness later on. Thus more and more Americans are considering introducing coffee into their dietary regime in order to start reaping some of its numerous and significant health benefits.

Whether it is enjoyed for its health properties, its delicious flavor, or its ability to perk up one's morning, coffee is quickly growing in popularity among Americans today. - 17269
